RésuméAprès avoir proposé une synthèse de l’enseignement de Lacan concernant les pères réel, imaginaire et symbolique et les différentes fonctions paternelles, l’auteur envisage comment ces fonctions peuvent être effectives dans une société « sans père, ni mari » (les Moso de Chine). Une troisième partie de l’article est consacrée à une réflexion sur l’effectuation possible de ces fonctions au cœur des diverses modalités familiales contemporaines malgré (voire grâce) le déclin du patriarcat et de l’imago paternelle. Enfin, il propose le remplacement du concept de fonction paternelle – trop marquée par le passé patriarcal - par celui de fonction tierce symboligène, subjectivante et structurante.

The father, his manifestations and functions in Lacan’s teaching and today, twenty five years laterAfter putting forward a synthesis of Lacan’s teaching in regard to the real, the imaginary and the symbolic father and the various paternal functions, the author considers how these functions can be effective in a community “without father or husband” (the Mosuo in China). The third part of the article is devoted to reflecting on the possible actualization of these functions amidst the various present-day family modalities despite (or thanks to) the decline of patriarchy and the paternal imago. Lastly, he suggests that the concept of paternal function – too heavily stamped by a patriarchal past – be replaced by that of a threefold symbol-generating, subjectivating and structuring function.
