Lorsque le corps est atteint par la vieillesse, la maladie ou encore la fin de vie, la constitution-même du sujet est ébranlée. L’analyste est alors confronté à des ressentis archaïques en deçà des mots qui le convoquent dans son propre corps. L’auteur se propose d’étudier les aspects corporels du contre-transfert en développant trois situations relevant du champ clinique des soins palliatifs. Il s’agit de montrer comment l’aptitude de l’analyste à entendre et à habiter ses mouvements corporels primitifs (envahissement, lourdeur corporelle, sensation d’étouffement) vient dynamiser la symbolisation des productions psychiques du sujet et ainsi favoriser la créativité dans la relation thérapeutique.

The Bodily Dimension of Counter-transference and the Bodily Commitment of the Therapist in the Field of Palliative Care. When a body becomes old or sick and life is approaching its end, the very foundations of the subject are shaken to the core. This confronts the analyst with archaic feelings lying beneath words and which awaken sensations in the analyst’s own body. The author of this paper draws on three specific cases from her experience in the field of palliative care to explore the bodily dimension of counter-transference and shows how the analyst’s capacity to grasp and embody these primitive corporeal sensations (bodily heaviness, a feeling of suffocation or being overwhelmed) may be used as a driving force behind the symbolisation of the patient’s psychical productions and thus instil the therapeutic relationship with a new creativity.
