Sylvain Pattieu’s text invites readers to immerse themselves in the practice of authors supervising students in the framework of classes and individual tutorials in creative writing programmes. His article highlights the complex polyphony characterizing the discussion of students’ texts in the “work-in-progress” workshop in the Masters in Creative Writing at Université Paris 8. He states that in the Masters, these courses often serve as echo chambers for texts, as well as for the authors’ doubts and reflections. In the exchange between extremely different positions and personalities, the empathetic consideration of one another’s work has proven to be one of the essential qualities of this creative writing workshop.
