Many topics related to Social economy are already studied within geographical research projects: governance and local development, places and rooting, local areas. However, only few publications have arisen in the field of geography, on this research topic. This text draws up a state of the art and suggests some avenues for a geography of social economy : firstly a process of enumeration, classification and mapping, secondly an interdisciplinary construction involving economy, sociology and political sciences, thirdly a new reading of interplay between the level of particular places and the global scale, and finally a review of the notion of durability including economic and social durability. The article suggests both the analysis of territorial models of the Third Sector in the current neo-liberal context, and the interpretation of the local interactions between the promotion of social and solidarity-based activities and public policy.
