"In The Spirit of Laws, the question of the nature of man is not supported as the modern jusnaturalists would do. The physiological considerations of Book XIV, and the study of movement of the fibers, reveal a ""flexible being"". Montesquieu tried to establish an anthropological knowledge appropriated with the draft study of human institutions. This knowledge is not a prerequisite for political investigation. It is inseparable from the latter and seems to be an anthropology of differences."
