According to Proclus, the soul is not the entelechy of an organic body. It is different from, and existed prior to, the body. Therefore, childhood is not a complete beginning but the transition period between two existences, the moment of the greatest turmoil when, at birth, the sensations lead to oblivion in regard to previous lives.
