When Monetary Transactions Shape Marital Relations

Two anthropological researchs, led in Burkina Faso between 1996 and 2008, allowed to question the changes of the marital relationships in West African urban environment. Starting from a qualitative study of the various forms of conjugality, this contribution proposes to highlight the role of the monetary transactions in the daily redefinition of the conjugal relationships. The historical context of the family changes comes to clarify our matter.
