Accustomed to ruling on questions of all kinds, guardianship judges do not shrink from the major contemporary issues facing our society, one of which is end-of-life medical care. How can we decide to limit or stop a treatment which has become useless or disproportionate when the person concerned has become unconscious without being able to express their will in the slightest? The implementation of public health law instruments (advance directives, person of trust, collegial procedure) today no longer excludes vulnerable adult protection law.
