Psychosocial adjustment of mothers of gifted children: Effects of mothers’ sociobiographical characteristics

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2020. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This study aims to investigate the association between certain sociobiographical characteristics of mothers of gifted children and their psychosocial adjustment. A questionnaire assessing perceived stress, perceived control, perceived social support, coping, and quality of life was presented to 53 mothers of gifted children. The results show an association between certain socioeconomic characteristics (professional activity, perceived income level, social network) and the transactional processes and quality of life of the participants. Consistent with the parental stress model, these findings support the idea that having a gifted child can alter maternal quality of life, and that this experience varies according to the mother’s personal characteristics. Thus, this study makes it possible to identify certain risk factors for the mothers of gifted children.
