Souleymane Bachir Diagne, a Senegalese philosopher, and professor at Columbia University in New York, discusses his intellectual work regarding Islam. Inspired by his family, he followed a Sufi religious education that encouraged openness to critical thinking. He describes his commitment as a teacher to transmit the importance of dialogue between the various world philosophies, as well as the value of pluralism and tolerance in the face of existing ideologies of exclusion. He also shares some personal thoughts on the contemporary dynamics of Islam, especially coming from African American movements and West African intellectuals. He also reflects on diverse feminist movements.
