Can the stage be considered as an emblematic space where an interpretative elaboration takes place, in a Freudian perspective? Acting—in Winnicott’s conceptualization— subverts and deeply modifies the relationship between patients and the therapist, opening up to completely different transference issues than those generally in place in psychosis. Acting thus becomes a central theoretical model, helping us understand the psyche and its interpretation from a different perspective. The acting experience leads us to question the transformational processes generated by the theatrical setting. But more fundamentally, it reinstates a debate on the clinical approach to psychosis.
