The conception and implementation of psychological care for young offenders raises certain ethical and practical questions for professionals, particularly for the clinical psychologists who contribute to their institutional care. Our study is based mainly on clinical practice in the Young Persons Judicial Protection Service, provided in “accommodation” for adolescents placed under judicial authority in a penal context. As an alternative to incarceration, the measure of temporary placement in a (re)educational institution is ordered by a judicial mandate. This measure may be accompanied by a certain number of obligations, including the obligation to provide care. But how can psychological care be provided for these adolescents in view of their psychopathological characteristics? Can the care process be imposed by a third party or does it instead rely on the judicial authority to function?
