The clinical psychology consultation in the context of ART with oocyte donation is presented to the infertile couple as a time to overcome the shock of the pregnancy failure, and to support parental identifications in spite of the disillusion of the “infertility path.” It is a unique (or hardly reoccurring) clinical event, integrated in a multidisciplinary work, and it mainly aims at allowing the couple to reestablish a peaceful relationship with infancy, which has been destroyed by the depressive impact of a violent reality check. “When a child is wanted, one has it!” has always been the belief of these two children, who are now adults in distress; the most attentive medical explanations and the most intelligent rationalizations cannot help it. For each adult, the inability to be a parent could mean the loss of their inner child. Ours is an engaged clinical observation, deliberately centered on bringing together manifest elements of the current and past history of the subjects requesting ART as content for the couple to think about (similar to fairy tales). To justify this active position, we will discuss the reality and the stakes of this psychoanalytical work inspired by the therapeutic consultations of Winnicott, starting from clinical observations concerning the donation of spermatozoa and oocytes.
