Encouraging Early Oral and Nonverbal Communication

The originality of this pedagogic method lies in encouraging and stimulating communication, as well as the affective and sensory dimensions, between the infant and the caregiver or parent. It is important to engage in playtime as early as possible in a nurturing yet rigorous and benevolent environment. The enjoyable and light space and time are free flowing and should be separate from the intensive care and the potentially painful procedures the infant must endure. The premature baby must be validated and therefore creates the situation from beginning to end. It is he who controls the timing of the rhythms and micro-rhythms. Throughout the process, the infant takes over the exercise/playtime and acquires a certain degree of independence from this in relation to his environment and monitoring equipment. In our opinion, engaging in this playtime with the premature baby has an impact on his body language, which we believe to be deliberate and voluntary, and also stimulates his intellectual capacities.
