If the participation of the media in ordinary knowledge as well as their impact on the social construction and tranformation of social representations is not usually denied, the originality of this study is to operationnalize the analysis of the discourse produced by the press just at the interface of discursive contexts and social contexts in the frame of social representation theory. The analysis of 292 articles about Europe from the main national french daily press during the pre-electoral period of the 2004 European elections has been done with the textual analysis program alceste. It shows the content and the organization of the discourse as well as the position of each news paper. The discussion of the results is focussed on the effects of contexts and on the links between media discourse and social representations notably in their identity functions and the phenomena of anchoring to conclude on the plural logic of the medias in the production of reality.
