Qualifying the depictions of authority in cultural websites

This text considers the practices of authorization in the context of cultural prescription on the Internet. It focuses on the ways in which figures of authority are constructed on and by websites that base their editorial and economic models on musical cultural recommendation: Sens Critique and Soundsgood. Using the models of the “scout” and “curator”, the article studies the interaction of different systems of signs of evaluation—criticism, average, and scores—which it suggests compete to construct an authority of contingency: a conjunctural, ephemeral, and apolitical authority situated in communication logics.
