The Covid crisis led many psychiatric establishments to require their staff to wear professional clothing. But what may have been seen as a temporary prophylactic measure is still in place. This paper examines this state of affairs drawing on a review of the scientific literature and personal experience of the removal of uniforms by a team on an inpatient unit. The article supports the hypothesis that wearing a gown questions our relationship with the specificity of psychic care in the therapeutic relationship and also in its institutional dimension.
