Palestinians in the West Bank have been facing violence from Israeli settlers and the Israeli army, pre and post October 7, 2023. The West Bank has also been a territory under ongoing repression by the Palestinian Authority (PA), which forces the Palestinian population to endure not only the Israeli occupation but also Palestinian authoritarianism. The aim of this article is twofold: first, to examine the situation in the West Bank before Hamas’ attack on October 7, illustrating that, confronted with the deterioration of the political situation and the absence of any political, economic, and social prospects in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), new armed groups formed by the younger generation have emerged. They are organized against the ongoing Israeli occupation as well as the ever-increasing Palestinian authoritarianism. Second, the article explains that after October 7, the repression carried out by both Israel and the PA through their “security coordination”, against this movement has escalated. This repression, is intensified by increased military incursions all over the West Bank and by settler violence. Finally, the article demonstrates that, akin to the Palestinian population in Gaza, Palestinians in the West Bank are haunted by the looming prospect of a new Nakba.
