In situations of serious illness, the psycho-corporeal envelopes are damaged. The way the therapist perceives psychic processes in his or her patient influences the quality of processual reweaving of shared psychiatric envelopes. The therapist will keep track of his or her own bodily states and those of others (excitation and feelings of extinction) as forms of traumatic inductions related to the patient’s somatic state. To facilitate primary symbolization, the therapist must be aware of what we call the fundamental transference.
