After an introduction to the psychoanalytical concept of the symptom and its clinical approaches, the author investigates several determinants of some symptoms more specific to female medical and psychoanalytic patients: frigidity, anorgasmia, vaginal bleeding, vaginismus, and the disappearance of desire. He concludes with some clinical implications for the aims and objectives of psychoanalytically oriented treatment.
