Effraction of psychic envelopes during an early miscarriage: Between rigidity and permeability, what is the fate of female sexuality during the following pregnancy?

Pregnancy puts the woman’s psychic envelopes to the test as she becomes a mother. It reactivates what Jacqueline Schaeffer (1997) refers to as anxieties of the feminine in women. When an early miscarriage has previously occurred, these are tinted by an experience of loss or even something less than loss. The new pregnancy is then traversed by particular powerful psychic movements that influence the quality of the psychic envelopes. Our hypothesis is illustrated by a clinical example. During a pregnancy after an early miscarriage, the psychic labor is proportionate to the intensity of the anxieties of the feminine and the need to give shape to a vague or even ambiguous experience—that felt during the previous experience of miscarriage.
