Women, education, and politics

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2022. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Starting from the twenties, Spanish women participated more and more actively in the public sphere due to a process of acquiring a higher cultural level and changes in society’s mentality, claiming a series of political and social rights: access to education, voting, divorce… In these first decades, the clearly feminine cultural spaces that were created favored these debates and consolidated sisterhood links, such as the Residencia de Señoritas or the Lyceum Club. In turn, these women helped consolidate new gender models that were alternative or even opposed to the traditional female role. However, the “modern women” met strong opposition, not only among the most conservative components of the society, but also among intellectuals. In this article we will study how feminist / women’s magazines have addressed these changes and the recognition of women’s rights.
