Small bronze change in Ancient Greece (5th-3th BC)

Ancient Bronze coinage was already fiduciary money. It appeared in the Greek colonies around the middle of the fifth century BC, then expanded to the rest of the Greek world and took a growing part in exchanges, along with precious metal currency. Its beginnings seem to be partly explained by cultural transfers from non-Greek people. They presuppose an evolution of the conception of coinage, hitherto restricted to precious metal.
