Gay fatherhood first became emancipated from the “bio-conjugal” model of the family, then freed itself from what had hitherto been the homosexual’s fate. Nowadays, by resorting to gestational surrogacy, it can dispense with the need for a mother’s presence. More and more gay couples intend to be able to become fathers without a “woman” just as lesbian couples have become mothers without a man thanks to medically assisted procreation. Listening to what these men say, either individually or in collective situations, we seek to understand their motivations and the issues that this inroad to parenthood represent, bearing in mind that it is expensive, risky, morally frowned on and legally forbidden. An attempt is also made to define the nature of the alliance that arises between such gay fathers and surrogate mothers.
