This articles examines the way the Querelle des Bouffons took hold of the genres of writing. The numerous brochures with which it was constituted actually played with various literary forms, such as the biblical prophecy or the judicial ruling that were then often subverted with burlesque intent. In this ensemble, the letter occupies a privileged place which is justified by its dialogical format, coupled with its indefinite register. The dynamic polemic fed on the clear-cut confrontation of two camps and the plurality of actors, thus engendering a creative effervescence in the first year of the dispute, whilst the narrowed-down focus on Rousseau subsequently generated more direct forms of aggression.
