Psychoanalytical Discourses on Sexuality - Transgression, Perversion and Subversion

Psychoanalytical discourses on norms in matters of sexuality have often led to a dual opposition, that is between the psychoanalytical approach to sexuality and other discourses (moral, religious, political, social and cultural) on the one hand and that within the psychoanalytical field itself between different currents of thought on the other. The present article proposes to study this second controversy working from three socio-historical versions as to the issue: transgression, perversion and subversion. The emergence of each of these versions highlights theoretical oppositions in the field of psychoanalysis that sometimes lead to scissions. Should we then rather consider these oppositions to be the reflection of ideological positions and/or an expression of the difficulties inherent in reconciling with other approaches?
