This publication develops and updates the article “Research on child protection in France: State of play and issues” published in the Polish Kwartalnik Pedagogiczny (Pedagogical Quarterly, Séraphin, 2019). Looking at the most recent research work published in France between 2018-2020 on children at risk and their protection (in book form, articles, theses, etc.), it analyses emerging or still topical themes, grouping them under a series of subject headings. These include: i) better understanding the phenomenon of mistreatment and clearly identifying the victims; ii) the needs, well-being, respect for rights and consideration of the child’s living context; iii) the protection system and its management; iv) diversified protection systems and analysing the child’s pathway; v) participation in co-construction; vi) the issue of status and identity; vii) changes that follow societal evolution, with the example of digital technology and screens; viii) renewal of research through comparative studies and ethical concerns.
