The author introduces the concept of afterwardness applied to couple psychoanalysis. He studies the manifestation of afterwardness in the context where one spouse has suffered violent sexual traumas in the past, prior to the constitution of the couple. A fortuitous event of everyday life causes afterwardness, causing the trauma to resurface, from the inside this time. First, scenes of aggression re-emerge in the erogenous masochism register, in the masochistic desire to be assaulted. This first step will be followed by a second afterwardness effect where violence will be explosive then within the sadistic registry. Fantasies created from these movements will become the organizers in the couple’s sexual life and will heavily affect their relationship.
