Une même expérience intérieure est à l’origine de l’œuvre de Jung et de celle de Fellini. L’un et l’autre comprennent l’émotion qui les saisit comme la marque d’un mouvement inconscient mettant en branle leur créativité. En se nommant « medium artisan », Fellini reconnaît la présence mystérieusement agissante, dans le temps de réalisation de ses films, de l’archétype du Soi, mais tout autant le rôle humble et indispensable d’un moi artisan, seul garant, comme l’entendait Jung dans les années 1940 et 1950, des choix éthiques du sujet.

Jung and Fellini drew upon the same inner experience as an inspiration. They both understood being in the grip of emotion as the sign of an unconscious movement that aroused their creativity. By calling himself an “artisan-medium,” Fellini recognized that when directing his films, he was driven by two figures : a mysterious presence, an archetype of the Self, and the humble, indispensable figure of the artisan ego. As Jung understood it in the 40s and 50s, the combination ensured the subject’s ethical choices.
