RésuméL’obscur fantasme d’une éducation réussie a toujours couru dans l’histoire, qu’il soit porté par telle ou telle idéologie politique, ou bien par le secret désir des parents. Nous tâcherons ici de démontrer au contraire, sous l’angle de la psychanalyse, pourquoi jamais des parents ne pourront programmer ce qu’ils transmettront à leur enfant. Pour la raison qu’un savoir manque à l’éducateur, mais pour la raison aussi que l’enfant lui-même participe à ce qui lui sera transmis.

Education and UpbringingThe elusive fantasy of successfully bringing up children has been present throughout history, whether in various political ideologies or in the hidden desires of parents. Here, we attempt to demonstrate that despite this, from the perspective of psycho­analysis, parents will never be able to programme what they pass on to their children. This is due firstly to the fact that those doing the upbringing lack expertise, and secondly to the fact that children themselves contribute to the upbringing process.
