Cet article se propose d’analyser la réception de l’imagemédiatique d’un certain nombre de femmes politiques qui, pendant le quinquennat de Nicolas Sarkozy, ont arboré de façon ostensible des talons aiguilles (stilettos), faisant même de cet élément du vestiaire féminin, un marqueur politique distinctif. À ce titre, comme tout vêtement, les stilettos s’insèrent dans un système complexe de communication et d’interactions, mettant en jeu le corps, impliquant des logiques de conformation et de distinction. L’acte de se vêtir renvoie alors à une incontestable forme de théâtralisation et de mise en scène sous forme de stratégie de présentation de soi. C’est enfin un marqueur de genre, élément notoire et ostentatoire du dimorphisme sexuel. Saisi au prisme de la presse hexagonale, le port des talons aiguilles soulève un certain nombre de défis pour celles qui les plébiscitent : défi évident aux lois de la biomécanique, les stilettos sont aussi un défi aux normes vestimentaires et comportementales en vigueur dans le champ politique français. S’ils emblématisent parfaitement la démarche de ces nouvelles prétendantes qui s’imposent par un mélange d’ambition affichée et de détermination, ils portent également en eux le risque d’enfermer celles qui les arborent dans la « superfluité » (Veblen).

As any other garment, high heels are part of a complex system of communication and interactions, bringing into play the body, implying logics of conformation and distinction. The act of dressing itself then refers to an undeniable form of dramatization and production in the form of strategy of presentation of oneself. It is finally a marker of gender, notorious and ostentatious element of sexual dimorphism. In this context the port of stiletto heels raises a certain number of challenges for those who wear them. It is an obvious challenge to the laws of biomechanics. The stilettos constitute a challenge to the vestimentary and behavioral standards of the French political field. They are the perfect symbol of those women with ascending political trajectories who express themselves through a mixture of displayed ambition and determination. But the women who wear these stilettos also take the risk of being locked into an image of superfluity.

Desde la presidencia de Sarkozy, se ha producido un renacimiento generacional que ha garantizado la promoción de un cierto número de mujeres políticas que han aparecido regularmente con tacones de aguja, convirtiendo este elemento del vestuario femenino en un marcador político distintivo. En este sentido, como todas las prendas de vestir, los tacones de aguja forman parte de un complejo sistema de comunicación e interacción en el que interviene el cuerpo y que implica lógicas de conformación y distinción. El acto de vestirse remite así a una forma innegable de teatralización y puesta en escena en forma de estrategia de autopresentación. Por último, es un marcador de género, un elemento notorio y ostentoso del dimorfismo sexual. En este contexto, el uso de tacones de aguja plantea una serie de retos formidables para quienes los eligen: un desafío evidente a las leyes de la biomecánica, los tacones de aguja son también un desafío a las normas sartoriales y de comportamiento vigentes en el ámbito político francés. Si bien es cierto que emblematizan perfectamente el planteamiento de estos nuevos pretendientes que se imponen mediante una mezcla de ambición declarada y determinación, también conllevan el riesgo de encerrar a quienes los llevan en la “superfluidad” (Veblen).
