Dans cet article, les notions de condition, d’identité et de crise masculines sont interrogées dans les rapports entre les sexes depuis les changements des années 1970, en prenant l’exemple du Québec : il y coexiste en effet des idées contradictoires, entre discours politique et psychanalytique, concernant l’égalité entre les hommes et les femmes et la question incontournable de la différence des sexes. Ce questionnement, au plus près des changements actuels, pose le problème d’une recherche identitaire masculine actuelle, dans la découverte, la souffrance et la révolte.

MASCULINITY TODAY : CRISIS OR CONTINUITY ? In this paper, the notions of masculinity, identity and crisis are scrutinized in the context of the upheaval that has occurred in gender differences since the seventies. Quebec provides a good case study for such analysis. Some contradictions we live with implicitly are explored through political and psychoanalytical discourses. These relate to the idea that a form of gender equality has arisen though without resolving the psychoanalytical notion of gender difference itself. This exploration into present-day masculinity addresses the issue of the search for identity and the potential for discovery, but also the pertaining misery and sense of revolt.
