Ces pages proposent un aperçu des études italiennes sur les moralistes classiques et sur des domaines proches, parues dans les trente dernières années. Ces travaux, présentés ici en deux volets – formes brèves et traités –, font ressortir trois perspectives différentes dans la manière d’aborder le sujet : un intérêt très marqué pour les formes brèves, qui va bien au-delà du xviie siècle, une recherche qui inscrit la littérature morale dans l’histoire des idées, une attention, enfin, portée sur ses aspects plus nettement philosophiques.

These pages provide an overview of the Italian studies published over the last thirty years on classical moralists and surrounding context. Such studies, presented here in two parts—“short forms” and treatises—, highlight three different perspectives on the way to approach the subject: a very marked interest in “short forms” (which goes well beyond the seventeenth century), a form of research that inscribes moral literature within the history of ideas, and finally a focus on its more clearly philosophical aspects.
