L’article décrit et analyse un mémorial actuellement conservé à la British Library et écrit par un frère du couvent des Servites de Marie de Pérouse, Giovan Francesco Graziani, pour le pape Paul V. Le mémorial pose deux problèmes préliminaires concernant sa datation et la raison de sa présence à Londres, à l’égard desquels des hypothèses sont formulées. Dans sa première partie, le mémorial présente au pape un compte rendu de l’attaque contre la vie du conseiller juridique et théologien vénitien Paolo Sarpi, organisé par Giovan Francesco Graziani lui-même avec l’aide d’Antonio Bonfini. Dans la deuxième partie, Graziani rapporte à Paul V les informations qu’il a apprises sur Paolo Sarpi et sur son collaborateur Fulgenzio Micanzio au cours de sa mission à Venise. Le texte porte contre Sarpi et Micanzio des accusations d’athéisme et d’homosexualité.

A note written by Giovan Francesco Graziani, a brother of the Servites de Jésus-Marie convent, to Pope Paul V, is currently kept at the British Library. This article formulates hypotheses based on two initial problems raised by this note, concerning its dating and the reason for its presence in London. First, the note provides the pope with an overview of the attempted assassination of the Venetian State Counsellor in Jurisprudence and theologian Paolo Sarpi, organized by Graziani himself with the help of Antonio Bonfini. Second, the text informs the pope of what Graziani learnt about Paolo Sarpi and his collaborator Fulgenzio Micanzio during his mission in Venice and accuses both men of atheism and homosexuality.
