A Geography of Sexuality or a Geographer's Sexuality? Issues around a Methodological Order

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2012. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Although it is now accepted in the epistemology of social sciences that the use of reflexivity allows more transparent methodological choices and operations for knowledge production, some field practices remain outside these attempts at objectification. The sexual and emotional commitment of the geographer on his working terrain is one example. By its very nature, the geography of sexuality is an exception, and poses these questions, or at least highlights the issues involved. My purpose here is not to prescribe rules of conduct on the grounds of meeting a strict order for truth and transparency, but rather to try to highlight the challenges and limitations of reflexivity and intimacy from different approaches to the field. The first part defines geography of sexualities both in terms of its object and its methods. The second analyses two archetypes of field studies: detached observation and participation, so as to show the issues at stake and limits. The last part reviews three contributions of this geography.
