A new funerary column in Gallia Narbonensis (Avignon, Vaucluse)

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2020. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : During fall 2017, an archaeological operation was carried out in the South-East of Avignon (Vaucluse), in the place called “Bel Air”. It involved the trial excavations of a vast land of approximately 275 000 m² to assess the area’s archaeological potential. Within one of the archaeological trenches, has been uncovered a structure identified as a possible reinforcement of a road section, implemented with reused lapidary elements, including architectural blocks and anepigraphic steles. Typological and comparative analysis of the architectural parts allowed to recognise that some of them belonged to the same monument. Their comparison with other architectural elements discovered nearby, or in a relatively close geographical area (Mouriès, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Beaucaire), allows us to propose here the existence of a new funerary column in Gallia Narbonensis.
