System and History in Schleiermacher’s Ethics
Type de matériel :
2
Through a systematic consideration of the history of ethics, above all in the Grundlinien einer Kritik der bisherigen Sittenlehre (1803), Schleiermacher comes to elaborate his own ethical position, which seeks to value every individual for his or her peculiar and non-transferable contribution to a common ethical world. His critique of eudaimonic individualism on one hand, and of limitative universalism on the other, defends an ethical approach whereby the historical and the individual points of view can be coordinated with a systematic philosophy of mind.
