A new “genuine” adoption contract from Nuzi
Type de matériel :

This paper presents the first edition of a document from Nuzi, currently kept in the British Museum under the signature BM 17605 (CDLI no. P469213). It clearly constitutes an adoption contract and specifically a contract of “genuine adoption,” much less common than the well-known “pseudo-adoption” contracts that are so numerous in the sources from the Kingdom of Arrapḫe. The specific nature of the document, the clauses, and the identity of the contracting parties are discussed in depth, as is the presence of other prominent figures in Nuzi life during the first half of the fourteenth century BC.
