A miraculous network. Relationships, actors and meanings of pain around the healing activity of the Jesuit Giuseppe Pignatelli (first half of the 19th century)

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2023. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : ‪This article examines a series of alleged miraculous cures attributed to the intercession of the Aragonese Jesuit Giuseppe Pignatelli (1737-1811). The research is based on the dossier kept in the General Postulation collection of the Jesuit General Curia Archives in Rome. This dossier contains the documents collected by those promoting and introducing Pignatelli’s apostolic cause. We read these texts by cross-referencing them with the documents of the enquiries instituted in Rome, Milan, Bologna and Parma, and with other types of sources (medical reports, correspondence, newspapers) emanating from the various actors involved in the places where the alleged cures took place. In this investigation of the tensions and issues involved in promoting Pignatelli’s sanctity, emblematic of the transition from the Old to the New Society of Jesus, a network of relationships emerges in which the suffering female body plays a crucial role.‪
