The occupation of Northern Indochina by the Chinese army is a period of turmoil and controversy. The decisions of the Chinese officers in charge of this mission, criticized by their French contemporaries and then by historians of the Cold War era, must be analyzed according to the arduous circumstances under which they were taken. This work allows us to better understand Chinese diplomacy in Indochina during the post-war era and the historic role of China in this region.
