This article offers a comparative analysis of women occupying high-level management positions in Brazil between 1996-2006. In this period, Brazilian women made tremendous progress in education, participation in economic life and social status. Women’s employment in general had developed strongly since 1980. The article centers on how employers perceive women’s rising mobility. Glass ceiling and walls still limit women’s access to high level and management positions in sectors that involve high-level responsibilities and offer the highest remuneration. As a result, women managers tend to be concentrated in certain less lucrative sectors.
