The National Association represents Magistrates in Italy almost all the magistrates, judges as well as prosecutors. After a long way that has gradually removed the Italian judiciary of a hierarchical model ANM has become the most significant reflection of a culturally plural body. The approaches and ways of interpreting the role of magistrate trace the lines an often confrontational differentiation, turning into several tensions on certain issues of the judicial governance. This article first reconstructs the historical developments of the Unions of judges Italy and then analyzes the effects they have on the recent instruments adopted by the Supreme Judicial Council to appoint the chief judges and the chief prosecutors.
