From 1945, the authors of large-scale violations have been put on trial by international criminal courts, bringing the vicious cycle of impunity to an end and contributing to the restoration of peace. In France, society's awareness, passed on by the media, has given meaning to pursuing criminals who had previously escaped justice. In Rwanda, the desire for democracy allowed the Gacaca Courts to contribute to national reconciliation. Memorial sites contribute to this societal regeneration and the end of the culture of impunity for mass crimes.
