Against the colbertists and Anglomaniacs: Du Pont de Nemours and the freedom of trade
Type de matériel :
49
The purpose of this article is to show that the discourse of Du Pont de Nemours on freedom of trade evolved considerably over time. If he begins by using the concepts developed by François Quesnay, he abandoned thereafter gradually Physiocratic vocabulary and focuses his argument on mutual benefits of free trade. This transformation is explained not only by the desire of Du Pont to convince his opponents, but also by the need to adapt his discourse to those of Adam Smith and Jean Baptiste Say to try to circumvent their criticism of Physiocratic theses.JEL Codes :?B11, B12, B17
