Agoojiée! Or Gu’s Sabers. Economies of (Non-)Restitution (Benin)
Type de matériel :

This contribution examines the valorization of agoojiée/amazones on the tourism, art and cultural industries markets in the context of restitutions. While the amulets and swords of the amazons are not returned, we confront this economy of otherness with the narratives and memories of their contemporary heiresses. Markets seek to exploit the “feminine” character of warrior women, while their heiresses recount the gender of things and people: contextual and relative positions of proximity and subjugation, violence and begetting, refractory to museum and market alike.
