In the UK, strike movements in 1978-79 and 2010-2011 have been followed by the implementation of legal restrictions on the right to strike. The historic strike waves of 2022-23 are no exception with the government’s proposal to implement minimum service levels to limit effectiveness of strike action. The article analyses the potential impact of minimum service levels, looking in more depth at the railway sector, where the proposed legislation is likely to have the biggest impact.
