The adolescent is a potential believer, caught up in a syndrome of ideality. These theoretical underpinnings are discussed in the light of clinical vignettes involving adolescents in psychotherapeutic consultations, in order to uncover the psychic issues at stake in today’s teenagers’ relationship with religion. These reflections reveal the transferential issues and specific listening modalities involved with adolescents grappling with their religious commitment.
