Based on a clinical situation, this text explores the effects of lockdown measures on subjects suffering from addiction. The problem of compulsive behavior, whether it involves the internet, drugs, sex, or food, is a common feature of clinical practice and has intensified as a result of the health crisis. These forms of subjectivation present us with two major difficulties: the absence of psychic conflict and self-destructive functioning. The entire task of the treatment will revolve around finding the way back to a representation that has been “drowned” out by the addictive behavior. Thus it will be up to the analyst to maintain a presence in the transferential dynamic that will allow the experience of encounter with the primary object to be repeated.
