Theoretical Perspectives on Parental Reflexive Functioning and the Watch, Wait, and Wonder Approach

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2013. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Parental reflexive functioning (PRF) refers to the parent’s capacity to understand their and their child’s behavior in terms of mental states (thoughts, desires, beliefs, feelings, and intentions). PRF has recently been identified as a key variable responsible for the intergenerational transmission of attachment security. The Watch, Wait, and Wonder (3W) approach, a dyadic intervention used with parent and child, is explored as a possible means of improving PRF. This paper reviews variables involved in the PRF and compares them with specific aspects of the 3W approach in order to discuss the contributions and limitations of this intervention for the development of PRF.
