Our edition presents for the first time correctly edited texts, without the false interventions of Lefebvre de La Roche. De l’Esprit is edited from the first unbound issue with commentaries by Voltaire, Diderot and Rousseau together with the Éclaircissements sur les propositions extraites du livre « De l’esprit » dans l’Indiculus publié par la Faculté de théologie de Paris. De l’homme is edited from a hitherto unseen manuscript found by David Smith. The third volume contains the poems, the Recueil de notes, as well as the correspondence with, some twenty unpublished letters and the full extant version of some letters which were published only in extract form in the Correspondance générale (1981-2004). Each text is supplied with a critical apparatus and comprehensive annotations.
